The ruins, yet magnificent church of Dingras built by the Augustinians is the third church to be erected in the same place. The first two were destroyed be earthquakes and fire. The present brick church was destroyed by a typhoon and an earthquake and became economically unfeasible to restore. The artistic faade with it Scarves, rectangular pieces, spatial mosses and horizontal groovers of neo-mudejar touches, and stucco decors is of 19th century vintage. The church is unique in the Ilocos Region as it is the only disused ruin that has been allowed to stand. |
